01Who we are
Remy is operated by Remy Camera, Inc., a Delaware corporation (referred to here as Remy, we, us, or our), located at 625 2nd Ave, Excelsior, MN 55331. We are the company responsible for the Remy application and for handling the information described in this policy.
You can reach us about anything in this policy, including privacy requests, at jacob@remynecklace.com.
Remy works with Ring cameras through the Ring Appstore, but Remy is an independent application and is not Ring, Amazon, or any of their affiliates. Ring's own handling of your camera data is governed by Ring's privacy notice, not this one.
02The people this policy covers
Remy involves two different people, and we treat their information differently.
- The account holder. The family member or caregiver who sets up Remy, connects the camera, reads the timeline, and reviews alerts in the app. This is usually you.
- The care recipient. The person the camera is pointed at, such as an aging parent. Remy processes footage of this person so the account holder can check in on them.
If you set Remy up to watch over another adult, you are responsible for making sure that person knows about it and agrees to it where the law in your area requires their awareness or consent. Remy is built for openness between people who care for each other. It is not a tool for secret or covert monitoring, and using it that way is not permitted.
03What information Remy handles, and how
Information you give us directly
- Account information, such as your name, email address, and sign-in details when you create a Remy account.
- Your settings, including which alerts you set to Notify, Monitor, or Ignore, and which cameras you connect.
- Your questions, meaning the messages you send when you chat with Remy to ask how someone's day is going or where something was last seen.
- Support messages you send us when you contact us for help.
Information Remy receives from Ring, with your authorization
When you connect Remy to your Ring account, Ring shows you an authorization screen listing exactly what you are sharing. Only after you approve does Remy begin receiving data. Depending on what you authorize, this can include the following.
- Video clips and live video from the specific cameras you choose to connect.
- Motion events recorded by those cameras.
- Doorbell press events, if you connect a Ring doorbell.
- Device status, such as whether a connected camera is online and working.
- Event history for the cameras you connect.
You choose which cameras to share, and you can change or revoke that sharing at any time, as described in section 8.
Information Remy creates
To do its job, Remy turns the raw footage into something readable. This generated information can include the following.
- The daily timeline, a simple record of the day such as meals, movement, visitors, and rest.
- Flagged events, such as a possible fall, a sign of distress, a trip hazard, or night wandering.
- Answers Remy gives you in chat, drawn from the day's recorded moments.
Technical information
Like most apps, Remy records basic technical and usage information needed to run the service reliably and keep it secure, such as app version, device type, log data, and error reports. We keep this to what we need and do not use it to build advertising profiles.
04Faces, blurring, and optional recognition
This is the part families ask about most, so we want to be exact.
Faces are blurred before your footage is analyzed for the timeline or stored. When a clip arrives in Remy's secure cloud, Remy blurs the faces of people you have not enrolled (see below), and only that blurred clip is analyzed and kept. The unblurred original is discarded and never stored or shared.
Recognition is optional, off by default, and limited to people you enroll. If — and only if — you turn it on and give a separate, explicit consent, you can enroll specific household members (by name and a photo) so their name can appear in your summaries instead of just "a person." Until you do that, recognition does not run and enrollment is blocked.
When recognition is on, Remy:
- Compares detected faces only against the people you personally enrolled — never against strangers, passersby, or anyone else you have not chosen to recognize.
- Stores each enrolled person as an encrypted mathematical template (a numeric vector, not a photo or image of their face), used only to recognize that person for you, in your own account.
- Leaves anyone you have not enrolled blurred, and labels them "Unknown."
- Does not maintain any pre-built database of faces, and does not match anyone against social media, public records, government sources, or any outside database.
Remy also detects events and situations, such as a fall, distress, or movement at night, so it can tell you what happened. It does not use voiceprints, gait analysis, or any other biometric identifier to figure out who a person is.
05How Remy uses this information
We use the information above only to provide and support the features you came to Remy for. That means the following.
- To write the daily timeline so you can catch up on someone's day in under a minute.
- To flag what matters, such as possible falls, distress, trip hazards, or night wandering, and to surface the flags you have chosen in your Activities tab.
- To answer your questions when you chat with Remy.
- To show alerts the way you set them, whether Notify, Monitor, or Ignore. Alerts appear in the app for you to review — Remy does not call, text, or otherwise contact anyone.
- To keep Remy working, including troubleshooting, securing the service, and preventing abuse.
- To meet legal obligations and respond to valid legal requests.
We use a small number of trusted service providers to process footage and generate the timeline and chat answers, described in section 6. We do not use your information for any new purpose without asking you first.
07Consent
Remy only begins handling your Ring data after you give clear, affirmative consent, first through Ring's authorization screen and then within Remy itself for the features you turn on. We ask for consent through a deliberate action by you, such as a tap, rather than assuming it.
You can withdraw your consent at any time. The ways to do that are described in the next section. Withdrawing consent stops future processing, though it does not undo processing that already happened before you withdrew it.
As described in section 2, if you are using Remy to watch over another adult, you are responsible for ensuring that person is aware of and consents to it where your local law requires.
08Your choices, and how to delete your data
You stay in control of your information. You can do all of the following.
- Disconnect a camera or Remy entirely. You can revoke Remy's access to any or all cameras from inside the Remy app or from your Ring account at any time. When you do, Remy stops receiving new data from those cameras.
- Delete your data. You can delete the footage, timelines, and other information Remy holds from inside the app. When you request deletion, we delete the data across our systems, including backups and any copies held by the service providers in section 6, within 30 days. We will confirm to you when deletion is complete.
- Delete your account. You can delete your entire Remy account from inside the app, which also deletes the data associated with it.
- Access and correct your information, by contacting us at jacob@remynecklace.com.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act and the General Data Protection Regulation, including the right to access, correct, delete, or limit the use of your personal information, and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights. To make any such request, contact us at jacob@remynecklace.com. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request, and we will respond within the time required by law.
09How long Remy keeps information
We keep information only as long as we need it to provide the service to you, and then we delete or anonymize it. Our retention periods are:
- Face-blurred video clips and their thumbnails are automatically deleted 30 days after capture, or sooner if you delete them. Remy does not keep long-term video.
- Daily timelines and summaries (the text record of the day) are kept while your account is active, with no fixed limit, so you can look back over past days. They are removed when you delete them or close your account.
- Account information is kept while your account is active and deleted when you close it, except where we must keep limited records to meet legal obligations.
- Security and audit logs (records of privacy-relevant actions, such as consent changes and deletions — not footage content) are kept for the life of the account.
If you delete your data or your account, we begin deleting it as described in section 8 rather than waiting for these periods to run out.
10How we protect information
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information against unauthorized access, disclosure, or loss. These include encrypting data in transit and at rest, limiting access to authorized systems and people, and the face blurring described in section 4, which removes the faces of people you have not enrolled before footage is analyzed or stored. No method of storage or transmission is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and to notify you and the relevant authorities if a breach affecting your data occurs, as required by law.
11Children
Remy is made for adults caring for other adults. It is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child's information has reached us, contact us at jacob@remynecklace.com and we will delete it.
12Where your information is processed
Remy is operated by Remy Camera, Inc., based in Minnesota, United States, and your information may be processed in Minnesota, United States and in other countries where we or our service providers operate. Where we transfer personal information across borders, we use safeguards required by applicable law to protect it.
13Health-related insights and safety alerts
Some of what Remy notices touches on wellbeing — a possible fall, a sign of distress, restlessness at night. Because this information is more sensitive than an ordinary activity log, this section explains exactly how it works, in one place.
What Remy looks for
Remy can watch for a small set of safety concerns: night wandering, a possible fall, a trip or stumble, situations that could lead to injury, visible signs of distress or pain, objects on the floor that could be a trip hazard, anything ambiguous that a person should review, and any custom concern you add yourself (such as "left the stove on"). Each one is listed by name in the app's Safety Alerts settings, so there is nothing on this list you cannot see.
How they are processed
These insights are generated automatically, by the same AI analysis described in sections 4 and 6, working only on face-blurred footage. The AI is asked to look only for the concerns you have switched on; when it believes it sees one, Remy attaches a flag to that moment in the day's timeline. No person watches your footage to produce these insights, and Remy does not diagnose conditions, measure vital signs, or build any health profile — a flag is simply a note that a moment may be worth your review. Like everything else Remy generates, these insights are never used to train, tune, evaluate, or improve any AI model, as described in section 5.
How long they are kept
Safety flags live on the daily timeline and follow the same retention rules as the rest of it (section 9): the face-blurred video clip behind a flag is automatically deleted 30 days after capture, and the text record of the flag is kept while your account is active so you can look back, until you delete that event, your data, or your account.
Who sees them
Health-related insights are shown only to you and the caregivers on your account, inside the app — in the daily timeline, the "needs a look" list, the weekly digest, and Remy's answers when you ask about the day. If you choose, you can generate a doctor's-visit summary to share with a clinician; that happens only when you ask for it, and you decide who receives it. Remy never sends these insights to anyone else — not to Ring, not to insurers, employers, or advertisers — and never sells them. The only systems that touch them are the sub-processors in section 6, which act on our instructions to run the service.
Your controls
Every one of these insights can be independently switched on or off. In Safety Alerts settings, each concern has its own setting: Notify means the moment is flagged in your Activities tab for you to review — Remy does not call, text, or otherwise contact anyone; Monitor records it quietly in the timeline for you to review on your own time; and Ignore tells Remy to stop watching for that concern entirely, so it is not flagged or shown. You can change any of these at any time, add or remove custom concerns, and delete any flagged event — or all of your data — as described in section 8. None of these choices affects the rest of Remy.
Informational only — not medical or emergency care
Remy is a calm daily check-in, not a medical device, a monitoring service, or an emergency response system. Its alerts, including possible fall and distress flags, are informational only: they can be wrong, incomplete, or delayed, and they should never be relied on for medical or emergency decisions. Remy does not provide medical advice or diagnosis, is not a healthcare provider or a covered entity under health privacy laws such as HIPAA, and using Remy does not create any provider–patient relationship. If someone needs urgent help, contact emergency services and a healthcare provider directly.
14Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Remy evolves. If we make a meaningful change to how we handle your information, especially anything that would collect, use, or share data in a new way, we will let you know through the app or by email and, where the change requires it, ask for your consent before it takes effect. The date at the top shows when the policy was last updated.
Changes to Remy's AI. As Remy's AI improves — new detection capabilities, new features, or changes in how accurately it flags things like falls or distress — we tell you in the app, and by email for significant updates. If a new capability would use your footage in a new way (for example, recognizing specific family members), we turn it on only with your separate, opt-in consent and explain it in plain language first, as described in section 4. We will not quietly expand what Remy detects or how it uses your footage.
